Kinetics of volatile fatty acids and hydrogen production during anaerobic digestion of organic waste material
This short paper describes the changes in VFA and hydrogen production in time, during an anaerobic microbial digestion where the organic waste material was given as a substrate. The experiment showed that the reaction run most efficiently between 6 and 10th hour of the reaction time. This can be an indicator for future experiments on VFA and hydrogen production optimisation.
متن کاملContinuous cultivation of photosynthetic bacteria for fatty acids production.
In the present work, we introduced a novel approach for microbial fatty acids (FA) production. Photosynthetic bacteria, Rhodobacter sphaeroides KD131, were cultivated in a continuous-flow, stirred-tank reactor (CFSTR) at various substrate (lactate) concentrations. At hydraulic retention time (HRT) 4d, cell concentration continuously increased from 0.97 g dcw/L to 2.05 g dcw/L as lactate concent...
متن کاملFatty Acids Analysis of Photosynthetic Sulfur Bacteria by Gas Chromatography
The fatty acid profile of bacteria has been extensively studied for taxonomic classification purposes, as bacteria in general contain particular and rare fatty acids, compared with animal and plant tissues (Purcaro et al., 2010). Lipids and fatty acid composition are quite useful for characterization of different species and groups of photosynthetic bacteria. Fatty acids can be identified by ga...
متن کاملOrigin and utilization of volatile fatty acids in the rat.
The arteriovenous differences in the caecum of the rat have been compared for volatile fatty acids (VFA) and for electrolytes. Our results suggest the possibility of an exchange between VFA and chloride at the level of the caecal wall, rather than a net exchange between VFA and bicarbonate; however, the role of bicarbonate or Cl- at the cellular level is still unknown. Acetate uptake by the liv...
متن کاملThe Production of Volatile Fatty Acids by Bacteria of the Dysentery Group
THESE STUDIES SHOW: 1. A close agreement exists among all the organisms studied in the total quantity of volatile fatty acids produced and in the ratio of formic to acetic, under aerobic conditions, and in the presence of 1 per cent of glucose. 2. When grown upon peptone alone, with free access of air to the cultures, volatile fatty acids are produced in appreciable quantities, although the rea...
